BERLIN — Gotham-based Open City Films has formed a deal with Snapper Films, a Helsinki-based investment and production company, to jointly develop and finance projects.

Founded in 1993 by Jason Kliot and Joana Vicente, Open City recently produced Tony Bui’s “Three Seasons,” which won three prizes at the Sundance Film Festival and is screening in competition at the Berlin Intl. Film Festival. Pic is being distributed by October Films.

Snapper’s principals are director Juha Wuolijoki and producer Marjukka Karki. Wuolijoki’s film “Paulie” was produced by the New York-based indie production company the Shooting Gallery.

“The hardest thing in the independent world is raising development money, and this alliance will help us find our next ‘Three Seasons,’ ” Vicente said.

“Our objective is to increase Open City’s opportunities for growth and capitalize on its remarkable recent success,” Karki said. “European investors are constantly searching for ways to enter the global film industry, and we feel we have found the ideal partner in Open City.”
