Pat Roach, best known for playing Bomber in British TV series “Auf Wiedersehen, Pet,” died of cancer on July 17 in England. He was 67.
The 6-foot-4 former champion wrestler, often tagged the “gentle giant,” had been too ill to join the cast on location in Thailand for the latest installment in the drama skein about grafting builders.
BBC producers had been determined he would star in the new two-part special and had planned to work the filming around him. However, Roach never had the chance to join the cast.
Born in Birmingham, Roach became British and European heavyweight wrestling champion.
He had a small role in Stanley Kubrick’s “A Clockwork Orange,” but his first major appearance was in Kubrick’s 1975 “Barry Lyndon.”
He played a different character in each of the Indiana Jones films, often cast as the screen villain. Roach also appeared in “Never Say Never Again,” “Willow,” “Conan the Destroyer” and “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.”
